It's the monsoon season, and with it comes dengue. The spread of the disease isn't in your hand but prevention is. By following these simple tips you can reduce the risk of this mosquito-borne illness.

Unclean and stagnant water serves as a breeding ground for dengue-carrying mosquitoes. Always clean your water containers, water pots, and cooler trays, and make sure the water is changed regularly.

Use mosquito repellents that consist of DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus, especially in the early morning and in the evening when mosquitoes are most active.

While going out during dengue season you must cover yourself as much as possible, and wear full sleeves, long pants, and socks to minimize skin exposure to mosquitoes.

To prevent bites while sleeping, place mosquito netting around beds, particularly for youngsters and the elderly. Make sure there are nets on entrances and windows to keep mosquitoes away.

Stay updated about dengue outbreaks in your area to be better prepared. If you experience any symptoms do not wait for them to get worse, visit a doctor at the earliest.
