August 4 every year is National Bone and Joint Day which promotes awareness of musculoskeletal health and preventive care. So put your bones and joints first today, and every day!

The National Bone and Joint Day theme this year focuses on the need for early prevention, active living, and community awareness to decrease the burden of orthopedic illnesses across the lifespan.

- Osteoarthritis - Rheumatoid Arthritis - Osteoporosis - Fractures - Back and knee pain These things are happening in growing numbers even among young people.

Calcium (milk and sesame, greens) via a diet and vitamin D (sunlight, supplements) are necessary in the build and maintain support of healthy bones, especially in women and older adults.

Weight-bearing activities (walking, yoga, exercise etc.) helps to develop bone density and healthy joint lubrication, stopping us from being sedentary and developing early degeneration!

Poor posture, sitting for prolonged periods of time and limited movement are primary contributors to neck, shoulder and spinal issues. Use ergonomic furniture and take breaks to promote/remind mobility.

Consistent participation in yearly bone density scans (specifically over 40) and maintaining a balanced diet can prevent most bone and joint issues from evolving into lifelong disorders.
