A pulse oximeter (also called oximetry) is a device that measures how effectively oxygen is circulating throughout the body.

The readings of a pulse oximeter provide valuable information about how much oxygen is found in the player’s bloodstream. Let's explore more about it!

Generally, the normal range of SpO2 (peripheral capillary oxygen saturation) for most adults in good health is between 95% and 100%. Therefore, if a person has an oxygen level reading in the form of SpO2 that registers at or above 95%, it is considered to be in the normal range.

A reading of 95% is very likely to be clinically normal, particularly in resting individuals without any signs or symptoms such as dyspnoea (shortness of breath, etc.).

There are situations outside of a normal resting state when it would be reasonable for a player with a SpO2 level of 95% to be in the normal range. These might include: - A mild cold or congestion - Minor changes in altitude - Physical activity

A clinician may wish to assess additional medical information from a player who demonstrates a SpO2 level of 95% along with symptoms such as -Shortness of breath -Chest pain or discomfort -Persistent cough -Fatigue

To obtain the best results possible when utilizing a pulse oximeter, the following recommendations should be adhered to : - Remain still for approximately five seconds - Warming your hands - Proper placement of the oximeter on your finger - Refraining from talking during measurement time.

A 95% oxygen saturation is considered normal unless there are concerns about additional symptoms or health status. If you notice any worsening symptoms, it is important to seek medical advice.
