According to Dr. Deepak Soni, Acidity can exist because of Pitta imbalance; Pitta relates to heat, sharpness and food that is out of balance; most Ayurvedic remedies are thought to bring attention to helping to cool down, soothe and to balance your digestive tract as opposed to simply suppressing it.

You can help to neutralise the acid in the stomach by sipping warm water throughout the day and drinking warm water immediately after eating will help to optimise your digestion.

1 tsp cumin seeds boiled in water and strained then consumed is a great home remedy to help provide a cooling effect to the digestive tract and relieve acid.

Drinking 1 - 2 tsp Aloe Vera juice before eating soothes the stomach lining and reduces inflammation.

After meals chew 1 tsp of fennel seeds which are said to balance Pitta and also reduce acidity while keeping fresh breath.

Drinking a glass of buttermilk with a pinch of roasted cumin can help calm the digestive fire and prevent heartburn.

Chewing a small piece of the licorice root, or boiling it in water for a tea. The licorice root protects the stomach lining and decreases acidity.

Spicy, oily and fried foods should be minimised. A lot of tea, coffee and processed snacks will create an increase in pitta.
