Every supplement has an expiry date for a reason. After that date the manufacturer cannot guarantee the potency or safety of the product.

Expired supplements are usually not dangerous but they become less effective. The active ingredients break down meaning you may not be getting the dose you think you are.

Most vitamins past their date are just less potent. But liquid supplements probiotics and fish oil can actually go bad and cause stomach upset. Never take these past their expiry date.

Heat humidity and sunlight speed up breakdown significantly. Supplements stored in a hot bathroom cabinet may already be less effective even if they are within date.

If they smell off have changed colour or are clumped together throw them out. These are signs of degradation regardless of what the expiry date says.

Expired supplements will not always harm you but they may not help you either. Fresh properly stored supplements always give you the best results.
