Aloe vera is a miracle plant when it comes to hair health; it soothes the scalp, reduces dandruff, and deeply hydrates dry strands.

Store-bought gels often contain added chemicals, but making it at home is simple, natural, and cost-effective. Here’s how to make pure aloe vera gel at home in just 5 easy steps, and how to use it for thicker, shinier hair.

Choose a thick, healthy leaf from a mature aloe vera plant (preferably from the base). Wash thoroughly to remove dirt or bacteria.

Place the leaf upright in a bowl for 10–15 minutes to drain the yellow resin (aloin), which can be irritating for sensitive skin.

Slice off the spiky edges and the flat side of the leaf. Scoop out the clear gel using a spoon.

Add the gel to a blender and pulse for 10–15 seconds until smooth. You now have a silky, lump-free gel. Add a few drops of vitamin E oil or coconut oil for extra nourishment.

Pour into a clean, airtight container and store in the refrigerator. Up to 1 week fresh, or freeze in cubes for longer use.
