Many times, cardiac arrest is mistaken for a heart attack. Though both conditions affect the heart, they aren't the same.

It’s a circulation problem caused by a blocked artery that reduces blood flow to the heart.

What is a Heart Attack?

The heart suddenly stops beating due to an irregular rhythm (arrhythmia), cutting off blood flow to the brain and vital organs.

What Happens During Cardiac Arrest?

A blocked artery prevents oxygen-rich blood from reaching the heart. If not treated quickly, parts of the heart muscle begin to die.

What Happens During Heart Attack?

– Gasping for breath – Unresponsiveness - Sudden collapse or death if no CPR given immediately

Signs to Look out for Cardiac Arrest:

– Discomfort in the chest – Shortness of breath – Cold sweats – Nausea/vomiting Symptoms can build up over hours or days.

A heart attack can trigger cardiac arrest. But not all heart attacks lead to arrest. Other heart conditions may also cause sudden arrest.
