Sciatic pain can be overwhelming, shooting pain through the back and into the legs. Will walking help? We’ll find out!

Sciatica pain happens when the sciatica nerve — the longest nerve in your body (it goes from your lower back to your legs) — is compressed, possibly from a herniated disc or an issue with your spine.

Gentle walking promotes circulation of blood, decreases inflammation, strengthens lower back muscles, & eases pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Regular walking increases spinal alignment & flexibility, it eases stiffness, & improves posture, which is key to alleviating long term causes of sciatica pain.

Begin at your own pace. Maintain proper spinal alignment, take smaller steps, and avoid stairs or uneven surfaces. Walk for about 10-20 minutes a day, starting with 10 minutes and building up.

If you experience increased pain or numbness that progresses down your leg, simply stop walking immediately, rest, and contact a physician or physiotherapist for guidance.

Walking is indeed good for sciatica when done properly. Gentle, consistent movement is essential for healing, strengthening your back, and allowing you to engage in physical activity without pain.
