Cognitive therapy alone found to be beneficial for patients with anxiety disorders, study suggests

-In a study, conducted by the experts at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, evaluated effective ways to treat social anxiety disorders.

-The study enrolled, close to 100 participants distributed across four groups, and studied these subjects to understand the effect of each of the proposed therapy and medication.

-The first group received only medication, second received only therapy, third received a combination of the two and fourth received a placebo pill. Of the four, the patients from the second group showed the best response with a recovery rate of 20-25%.

-Cognitive therapy is a psychotherapy where the negative thoughts for oneself and the world are challenged to alter the behavior and treat mood disorders.

-As per recent research, cognitive therapy alone has been found to help the patients with anxiety disorders. As per the study, about 85% patients showcased improved health post cognitive therapy.

-Findings were published in Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics.
