Winter while a respite from the heat of the plains, does leave one’s skin dry, dull and lifeless. 1 . Oatmeal Bath

For skin that is red and irritated from wearing wool all winter, dry due to the cold, an oat meal bath is a time tested remedy. Mix a cupful of ground oats in a bucket of lukewarm water. Use this mix to bathe with. Use a cupful of ground oats tied up in a muslin cloth as a wash cloth to remove dry and dead winter skin. Reduce irritation and hydrate skin. For very dry and damaged skin, apply a thick lotion all over after bathing with oat meal.

2 . Milk

Milk and Milk Cream contain lactic acid which helps exfoliate dry and dead skin. It helps moisturize, maintain a healthy pH balance, improve collagen production and improve skin health. Mix 2 spoons of milk cream (malai), 1 spoon of milk and a few drops of lemon juice. Apply on face, arms and legs, leave on for 10-15 mins and rinse with cool water for brighten skin.

3 . Eggs

Eggs are a great source of protein, whether consumed or applied. Eggs help repair dry & brittle hair, condition & moisturize hair. Whisk 1 egg, with half a ripe avocado, and apply to damp hair, leave on for 15-20 mins and wash with cool water. Use once or twice a month to see great results.

4 . Apple Cider Vinegar

In addition to dry skin, winter causes the scalp to dry and flake. This problem is not just embarrassing it can also be itchy. Simply mix apple cider vinegar with an equal quantity of water. Apply this mix to the scalp and gently massage into the skin for 2-3 minutes. Let this mix remain for 10-15 minutes, and shampoo and condition with cool water. Use this remedy 1-2 times a week until the dryness and reduced.

5 . Olive Oil

A terrific moisturizer, olive oil can be used for dry skin, tough spots like elbows and knees, dry and brittle hair. Packed with vitamins A and E, olive oil helps moisturize, repair skin damage, reduce free radical damage, increase blood circulation to the skin and generally do great things for your skin. For very dry hands, feet and cuticles, mix equal parts of olive and sugar. Use this to gently exfoliate hands and feet, pay attention to nails and cuticles and continue rubbing gently until the sugar has dissolved. Rinse with cool water and apply moisturizer immediately. Use this once a week for best results.

6 . Aloe Vera

For those suffering from flaky skin, or patches of peeling skin, the gel of Aloe Vera applied directly to the affected spot can help moisturize the affected area and soothe it, it also increases blood flow to the skin allowing it to rejuvenate faster. Apply gel and leave until dry. Rinse with cool water and use this at least 2-3 times every day until peeling stops.
